Foodbank on the Eastern Shore: Child Nutrition
Kids Cafe® provides low income or at-risk children with a free, nutritious evening meal in a safe, supportive environment. Children also participate in homework help and other after school enrichment programs. Currently there is one Kids Cafe site on the Eastern Shore.

The Foodbank on the Eastern Shore, a branch of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, is excited to be operating the first Foodbank-run BackPack Program in the region. This was the first program in which children received bags of nutritious, easy-to-prepare food to take home over weekends and school vacations throughout the school year.

Without some amazing volunteers, this program would not be possible. The Women of Onley Baptist Church visit the Foodbank’s Eastern Shore branch to pack the bags with healthy food. Also, Northampton County Cooperative extension office has been providing the Eastern Shore branch with nutrition activity sheets, which are placed inside backpacks. The Foodbank understands that education goes hand-in-hand with providing children and families with nutritious food.
