Give Stocks or Mutual Funds

By donating stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, you can reap tax advantages while making a big impact in your community.

How to Transfer Your Stock Gift

  1. Stocks arrive at our brokerage without donor information. So, please let us know your gift is coming by emailing the following information to donorservices@foodbankonline.org: donor name, phone, email, name of stock or ticker symbol, and anticipated number of shares.
  2. Ask your broker to transfer your stock gift to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore’s brokerage account:
    Wells Fargo Bank
    (757) 667-3498
    Account Number: 4890-3708
DTC (Depository Trust Company Number): 0141
    Tax ID Number: 52-1219783
  3. We will send you a letter acknowledging the gift which may be used as a tax receipt.

Planned Legacy Giving

By including the Foodbank in a will or estate plan, donors leave a profound mark on the community they cared deeply about even after their lifetime. Planned legacy giving not only provides much-needed resources to our organization but also serves as a testament to the donor’s philanthropic spirit.

If you have already included the Foodbank in your will or estate plan, we encourage you to let us know as it allows us to plan for the future.

Give Through Your IRA

If you are over 70 ½ years old and looking for a tax-efficient way to support the Foodbank, consider IRA giving. The Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to directly donate up to $100,000 from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to the Foodbank without it being counted as taxable income.

Donor Advised Funds

Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) present a convenient and impactful way to contribute to the Foodbank. By establishing a DAF, donors can make tax-deductible contributions to the fund and then recommend grants to the Foodbank over time. DAFs offer flexibility, allowing donors to consolidate their charitable giving, take advantage of potential tax benefits, and strategically plan their donations.

You can also direct a Donor Advised Fund grant directly to the Foodbank from Schwab Charitable, Fidelity Charitable, or BNY Mellon account.

Cryptocurrency

Much like stocks and mutual funds, cryptocurrency is an appreciable asset. This type of gift can be especially appealing if you are holding Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any other commonly traded cryptocurrency that may have appreciated significantly in value. If you first cashed that asset into dollars before making a donation, this would create a tax expectation on your capital gains. However, making a cryptocurrency gift directly to the Foodbank means your full contribution is tax-deductible at the immediate current valuation in US Dollars, and your philanthropy goes to work faster in fighting hunger across the region.

Donating cryptocurrency is easy using the simple and secure tool from The Giving Block. Make your donation in three easy steps:

  1. Select any coin that the Foodbank accepts for donations and enter a donation amount.
  2. Provide your information, including name, zip code, and state or choose to donate anonymously.
  3. Donate from your wallet using the address that is provided to you.

Cause Marketing Partnerships

Cause marketing campaigns involve collaborations between the Foodbank and businesses, where a portion of the sales from specific products or services is dedicated to supporting the Foodbank’s initiatives. These campaigns not only raise much-needed funds but also raise awareness about food insecurity. By aligning with socially responsible brands, the Foodbank can tap into a larger donor base and establish long-term relationships with corporate partners who share their commitment to making a positive social impact.

Advocate

Advocating for the Foodbank amplifies the voices of our food insecure neighbors and drives meaningful change in society. By actively raising awareness about hunger and the crucial role food banks play in supporting vulnerable communities, advocates can garner public support and influence policymakers to prioritize effective solutions. Advocacy efforts also help in securing vital resources, funding, and legislative support necessary for food banks to continue our essential work. By uniting as advocates, we can challenge misconceptions surrounding hunger, promote equitable access to nutritious food, and foster a more compassionate and supportive community for all.
