The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is pleased to invite you to our annual Elected Officials’ Engagement Day event. It will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at The Holiday Inn Virginia Beach/Norfolk Hotel and Conference Center. Last year was the first year implementing the half-day format and we hosted more than 100 elected and appointed officials, business leaders, community stakeholders and constituents.
As a part of the event, we will be conducting a Hunger Simulation that will enable participants to get a glimpse of what it is like to make decisions as a person living with chronic hunger and food insecurity.
The annual Elected Officials’ Engagement Day event is also an excellent occasion to network with business leaders, community leaders and other partners who collaborate with the Foodbank in striving to eliminate hunger in our community. During lunch, we will acknowledge the winners of our “Hunger Heroes” Corporate Food Frenzy and Summer of Service, with an overall goal to provide 180,000 meals and give 1000 volunteer hours to Hampton Roads charities. We will also announce the winners of our “Hunger Heroes of Tomorrow” high school essay contest. Fifty high school students will also be invited to attend the event and participate in roundtable discussions.
Our vision for a hunger-free community has compelled us to balance our efforts in “feeding the line”, while giving specific attention to strategies designed to “end the line.” Therefore, we are focusing on advocacy and education in a nonpartisan fashion. We will be hosting legislators, corporate partners and community members to promote the bipartisan issue of food insecurity.
Please feel free to call us at (757) 627-6599 for more information about the event. Registration for is $10 for partner agency representatives and non-profit organizations or $25 for the general public. We are looking forward to your attendance at our Elected Officials’ Engagement Day and to your continued engagement in our exciting work on behalf of children families and individuals in our community. Together, we can solve hunger!
