Dear Friend of the Foodbank
I recently celebrated my first year of service at the Foodbank. It truly has been an amazing year, and I never take for granted the opportunity I have been blessed to receive in this job.
During this first year, three things have stood out as great learning opportunities for me.
First, the remarkable generosity of neighbors to help their fellow neighbor. Our community is filled with generous donors like you who give their time, talent, and treasure to feed their neighbors.
Every day, I meet someone who goes above and beyond to make our community better — from 83-year-old Mr. Dennis who volunteers multiple times a week, to Ms. Smith who donated $5 with a note expressing her wish to make a larger gift. Such generosity inspires us to do more and to feed more.
Second, people are hungry for a lot more than food. People come to us hungry for opportunity, for steady and reliable work, for affordable health care, for a chance to prosper. While we can’t provide the answer to all these needs, we are uniquely positioned to provide the connection.
We can allow food to do what it does best — connect us to others, break down barriers, and magnify our similarities. By focusing on the other things our neighbors are hungry for — the root causes of hunger — we can do more to make sure they don’t stay in our lines.
