Foodbank Resumes USDA Food Distributions March 18

Registration and Eligibility Screening Begin February 22

Norfolk, VA—February 23, 2022 — The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is pleased to announce that it is resuming the distribution of emergency food boxes through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), a federal program that supplements the diets of low-income individuals and families.

The first in a series of regular distributions, they will commence on Friday, March 18 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Foodbank’s warehouse, located at 800 Tidewater Drive in Norfolk. Each recipient will receive a 42-pound box of food that will include fresh vegetables and fruits, as well as lean protein. Each box contains products that meet the USDA’s stringent requirements for quality and nutrition. The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is an equal opportunity provider.

Anyone who earns no more than 185% beyond the state’s poverty line is eligible to receive assistance through this USDA program. The Foodbank will be conducting registration and eligibility screenings beginning on February 22. Registration staff can be reached Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm by calling 757-995-3256. On this registration call, people will be asked to provide their name, address, phone number, number of people in their household, and self-declared monthly income. If they meet the federal income guidelines, they will be scheduled a pick-up time. Only one person per household may register for that household. Eligible clients may receive only one emergency food box per month.
