New Year Wishes from the Foodbank

Happy New Year!
As we step into 2025, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore would like to extend our warmest wishes and heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our mission.

While we worked against challenges like rising inflation, the expiration of pandemic-era programs, and increasing demand for food services, you continued to help deliver meals and provide hope to thousands of families navigating difficult times. You reminded us that our community shines brightest when it comes together in times of need.

As we take a moment to reflect on all we’ve accomplished together, we’re also looking ahead with excitement for what this new year will bring.

Celebrating Our Achievements

Despite our hurdles, this year was a milestone-filled year for the Foodbank:

  • Over 24 million pounds of food was distributed to members of our community.
  • We helped serve 20 million meals to neighbors experiencing hunger.
  • 67 percent of our distributed food came directly from community donations
  • The Mayflower Marathon raised record-breaking donations, ensuring thousands of families had access to meals during the holiday season.
  • Of the food we distribute, 70 percent consists of healthy, nutritious food options, including fresh produce.
  • We increased our inventory turnover rate by 155%, meaning that food products are moving from the warehouse to the hands of those in need quicker than ever.

Numbers only tell part of the story. Through financial contributions, food donations, and unwavering support, we expanded our reach and provided record-breaking service to underserved regions.

Our partnerships with local agencies and organizations were instrumental in reaching those most in need, working tirelessly to distribute healthy, nutritious meals, even as demand increased by nearly 20 percent or higher in some cities.

Each meal provided is a beacon of hope and a symbol of our community’s steadfast commitment to lifting up our neighbors in need. Behind every delivery and distribution, there is a ripple effect of positivity affecting countless lives.

A New Year’s Wish

With new year ahead of us, we remain committed to our mission of ensuring nutritious meals are accessible to all. Here are some key goals we’re setting for the year to come:

  • The Foodbank is expanding food distribution programs to reach even more families and underserved communities.
  • Outreach efforts will be increased to engage with more local organizations, build partnerships, and launch impactful community service projects.
  • We will recruit more volunteers and donors because every helping hand brings us closer to a hunger-free region.

Our vision for the year includes meeting the growing need for food assistance and addressing the root causes of hunger.
