FM99 and 106.9 The Fox Kickoff 21st Annual Mayflower Marathon

Food & Fund Drive Collects Donations for Local Food Banks, November 17-19

Norfolk, VA – November 14, 2017 FM99 and 106.9 The Fox today announced the launch of the 21st Annual Mayflower Marathon Food and Fund Drive, scheduled Friday, November 17 through Sunday, November 19. For 57 continuous hours, volunteers will collect food and monetary donations for holiday meals to benefit two regional food banks, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore and the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

Radio personalities from 106.9 The Fox (WAFX) and FM99 (WNOR) will broadcast live throughout the event — encouraging Hampton Roads residents to support both organizations and their efforts aimed at eliminating hunger in our region.

“The Mayflower Marathon is truly a testament to the spirit and compassion of the Hampton Roads community,” said Ruth Jones Nichols, CEO, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. “Each and every year, we continue to be inspired by the unwavering support of local businesses like FM99 and 106.9, and the amazing generosity of our friends and neighbors in the community who come out to help set the table for our neighbors in need.”

Last year’s event brought in enough food and funds to distribute over 652,000 total meals. Food and funds collected at the designated locations during the Marathon will be distributed to community-based partner agencies on Monday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 21 — just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday at the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

“The Mayflower Marathon is the perfect venue for our community to come together to provide holiday meals for those who have fallen upon hard times,” said Michele Benson, Chief Development Officer, Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. “We are excited about this annual event and the impact it will have on the families we serve.”

Monetary and in-kind donations in the form of frozen turkeys, hams, and the traditional Thanksgiving trimmings will be collected at the following locations:
