Norfolk, VA Solid Rock Worldwide Outreach Ministries in Chesapeake has received $6,000 from Food Lion Feeds to repair and repaint its facility and restock its food pantry.  As part of the grocer’s Great Pantry Makeover effort, some of the work will be performed by Food Lion employees alongside the ministry’s volunteers. Work will begin at 9:00 am on Friday, September 23 at the church’s food pantry, located at 245 Indian Creek Road in Chesapeake and is expected to be complete by the end of the day.

In addition, Solid Rock will also receive 145 Food Lion gift cards ($25 each, valued at $3,625.  This annual campaign takes place every September to align with Hunger Action Month, a time when Food Lion Feeds deepens its extensive existing partnership with Feeding America to raise awareness and inspire action to help people facing impossible choices resulting from food insecurity.

“We are proud to partner with Solid Rock Worldwide Outreach Ministries during Hunger Action Month to help raise awareness of this nationwide effort to help end hunger,” said Kevin Durkee, Manager, Food Lion Feeds, Food Lion. “The Great Pantry Makeover provides our associates a great opportunity to connect with their neighbors while nourishing the towns and cities we serve.”

About the Foodbank

For more than 40 years, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore has provided over 350 million meals to those in our community who face hunger. Through our programs, facilities, and large network of community partners, we “eliminate hunger” on a daily basis for many. However, we understand that our current work addresses hunger for individuals in the short term. It does not address the root causes which force individuals to return to a food pantry again and again. This understanding has led to the creation of a strategic plan aimed to move Hampton Roads closer to achieving the mission of eliminating hunger for those we serve—not only for the day, or for the week, but for a lifetime.
