How nonprofits can rebuild volunteer support in a post-pandemic world

April is National Volunteer Month, a time to honor the individuals who selflessly give their time, energy, and effort to make a difference in their communities. It is also a time to encourage more people to support nonprofits across the country in furthering their missions.

At the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, volunteers are vital to our mission of leading the effort to eliminate hunger in our community. Volunteers who spend their time with us sorting, packing, and distributing food for individuals experiencing food insecurity save the organization approximately $1 million annually.

Before the pandemic, we saw 150 volunteers a week. At the onset of COVID-19, that number dropped to 0 due to safety restrictions and health concerns. [Read more…]
