Summer Match Challenge by the PRA Group to benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore

WHAT: As part of their Summer Match Challenge, The PRA Group will match up to $50,000 in donations made to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.  These funds, which are part of a $150,000 donation over the course of three years, will support the organization’s summer feeding efforts aimed at providing healthy food for children when school is not in session.  Students of families experiencing food insecurity often lack access to nutritious meals during the summer, as they depend on free or reduced breakfast and lunch during the school year. The PRA Group will kick off the Summer Match Challenge by filling backpacks with child-friendly, non-perishable, and easily-consumed food to ensure food insecure students have food over the weekend or extended holiday break.

WHO: Members of The PRA Group will volunteer on-site at the Foodbank — filling approximately 500 backpacks. Additional donations are encouraged from the community through the Foodbank’s website — foodbankonline.org.

WHERE: The PRA Group will be at the Foodbank on Tuesday, May 17th from 1-3 p.m.; 800 Tidewater Dr. Norfolk, Va. 23504

About the Foodbank

For 40 years, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore has provided over 350 million meals to those in our community who face hunger. Through our programs, facilities, and large network of community partners, we “eliminate hunger” on a daily basis for many. However, we understand that our current work addresses hunger for individuals in the short term. It does not address the root causes which force individuals to return to a food pantry again and again. This understanding has led to the creation of a 3-year strategic plan aimed to move Hampton Roads closer to achieving the mission of eliminating hunger for those we serve—not only for the day, or for the week, but for a lifetime. For up-to-date information on the Foodbank, visit www.foodbankonline.org, Facebook, or Twitter.
